"Moving to a foreign country to complete a PhD can be quite challenging. Finding accommodation, getting the health insurance, and dealing with the paperwork in a foreign language are just some of the things from a list that make the transition process difficult. It was therefore very relieving to discover that PACE arranges a tutor for all new candidates. In my case the tutor helped me to find a suitable flat in Paderborn and assisted me with all the administrational affairs like enrolling at the University of Paderborn, opening a bank account or registering at the Paderborn international office. Furthermore, the PACE staff provided all support imaginable, and I know that I can contact them for help at any time." – Asmir Vodencarevic, PACE PhD-student |
The PACE office is the contact point for all doctoral students. The PACE team assists its PhD-students in administrative affairs and helps with lots of study concerns. One of our core values is to treat everyone with respect. We offer:

PACE encourages women to follow up their studies with a PhD. We are aware of the fact that our society cannot afford to ignore the expert knowledge and potential of talented young women scientists. Since 2008, the Zonta Club Paderborn awards a yearly prize to women PACE doctoral students with outstanding results in scientific research. The Zonta Club Paderborn, a member of Zonta International, is an independent network of women professionals, who are in executive positions or run their own business. The club aims at improving women’s positions in all social groups. Taking into account that scientific research is only possible to a limited extent directly after the birth of a child, PACE prolongs the fellowship for up to six months. Additionally, women researchers can join the mentoring program for women run by the University of Paderborn. You can read more in German here. |
Combining parenthood with doing a PhD often requires a great deal of flexibility and organizing ability, as well as reliable child care. The University of Paderborn provides various facilities for young parents such as day-care or the possibility for temporary child care, special parent-child rest rooms, and a parents-service office. Furthermore, the University has initiated a project titled „science and paternity – collegial counselling for fathers and fathers-to-be in science“. We are pleased to assist you, if desired. Here you can find full information (in German) concerning the support opportunities for parents. |
